Psalm 22

Psalms in the world ... Psalm 22

Today I took a short drive up above the gravel pit on Hwy 93 here in Somers and found this vista of this corner of the world. Some may say that a gravel road isn't too picturesque and I'd tend to agree but I've found that gravel roads in and around Montana often lead you to surprising places. This place certainly reminded me of God's dominion over our lives and the world - as this Psalm declares. May you feel that this day too.

Psalms in the world ... Psalm 50

I was drawn to the lakeshore for this psalm thinking about the sun that will rise in the summer over this part of the lake. And yet, the psalm's power in describing God's sovereignty ultimately was more powerful standing on the lakeshore with snow, wind and cold. May you be embraced this day.

Psalms in the world ... Psalm 147

In this spot at Flathead Lutheran Bible Camp each summer there are hundreds of kids each week who learn how "good it is to sing praises to our God!" May we all find such a place in our lives this day.

Psalm 111

Psalms in the world ... Psalm 111

When you hear the word "food" what comes to mind, like in verse 5 of this psalm? Your favorite meal? Your favorite snack? I must admit that is what usually comes to mind when I hear that word. And yet for some, for far too many, it is this buiding. We are ever thankful that places like this exist and ever offer of our hearts and yet it does challenge us that there are those who do not have enough "food" to eat. May we be guided by the "works of (God's) hands" toward faithfulness and justice as we give thanks for all of life's necessities - like food.

Psalms in the world ... Psalm 62

The first line of this Psalm called out to me today, specifically one word - silence. There is so much noise in our lives these days. Some of it good, some of it not, but all of it can be noise in one way or another. The setting for this Psalm (Ashley Lake, MT) just called out to me and said read me here. It was a moving place to be and I hope it moves you too.

Psalms in the world ... Psalm 139

Today I'm looking back, a little bit. I'm at home with a child who is feeling under the weather and where the Psalm says "you knit me together in my mother's womb" I couldn't help but remember all these moments with my children. I hope you will post back a picture of you as a child or of your own children growing up. Let us share in the joy of the God who "marvously made" all of us and especially those we love the most. Blessings everyone!

Psalms in the world ... Psalm 29

What power there is in the "voice of the Lord"!? When have you, like rolling thunder in a summer storm, experienced God's voice? Was it reassuring? Challenging? Uplifting? Experience this Psalm anew as we hear about God's voice again this day.

Psalms in the world ...

This psalm is for the first Sunday after Christmas - December 27th. It seeks to praise God for all the ways God has acted in the past. For what would you give praise this day?

Psalms in the world ...

We probably don't really understand, as well as we should, what is meant in scripture when the word "covenant" is used, and it is used alot! In the Hebrew Bible (or Old Testament) this was a special word of significance designed to help people experience, know and feel the depth of God's intimate relationship with God's creation. They, obviously, didn't always appreciate that but nonetheless it was used so that they would know they are God's people. May we know that today too as we hear this Psalm use that word near the end.

Psalms in the world

Today we continue our "Psalms in the world" this Advent season but with a twist! One of the offerings our lectionary gives to us during the season of Advent is to begin to hear the prelude to the birth of Jesus through the words of Mary's faithful response to God's working in her life. And who among us cannot hear the beautiful setting of the Holden Evening Prayer as we receive these words of one young woman who found the courage to embrace the Savior of us all and God's working through her. May you be embraced by God's love and Mary's faithfulness this day.
