Psalm 46

Psalms in the world ... Psalm 46 This week we are celebrating Reformation Day and this Psalm certainly expresses the confidence that can come from knowing that our merit in the world is not based upon what we do, but upon God's steadfast faithfulness. May you know that confidence today and may it sustain you through all the thunderstorms of your life whether they be in the mountains, the sea or on a lake. Blessings to you!

Psalm 91

Psalms in the world ... Psalm 91 As I was driving by this familiar place and saw these two eagles sitting in their usual spot, I couldn't help but hear the words of this Psalm - "because you have made the Lord your refuge" - in my head. How do we, in the midst of these changing times make the Lord our refuge? How do we find the peace of the Lord, like these eagles with the highway roaring by? I pray that you may find some refuge this week as your life goes roaring by as well.

Psalm 90

Psalm 90

Psalms in the world ... Psalm 90 I went to Pickleville in Somers, MT today. I've known a lot of places with strange names (Boring, OR for example) but Pickleville is pretty close to the top. And yet, Pickleville also seems to be a sad place. This street for instance looks like it once had homes along it that were torn down or moved. There are old laundry lines that haven't seen laundry in years. Lines of fruit trees that were once planted with care that are now absent of their owners. Simply, it is a pretty desolate place. This Psalm with its language of affliction and suffering speaks to the ways that we can all encounter those realities. The Israelites certainly did, we can and do and so we are to turn in trust to God. May the story of this Psalm and Pickleville remind us to do so today.
